The next BQC quiz...

... will be conducted by Ameya Samant at 3pm on June 3 at the Pinstorm office. (Directions here.) Francis Rodrigues will be pitching in with a few questions as well. Ameya informs me, "The theme for a major part of the quiz will be India (heavy doses of Bollywood, television, media and advertising through the years)." Do come.

And ah, what are the league standings like now? Has Rajiv Rai put current champion AP Alagarsamy in his place yet? Has Avinash Mudaliar shaken up the scene with a grand entry? Has Dhoomketu emerged from his self-imposed exile to show everyone who's boss? Has this author, who led for much of the last season, gotten back his groove?

Well, Dhoomketu remains absent, and newcomers have begun to believe to that he is an urban legend, and never actually existed. I haven't taken part in a quiz this season yet. But the pot's been stirred up a bit in the two quizzes so far, as you'll see below.

Before the standings, a quick word on format: Unlike last last year, all finalists do not get points. Only the top three teams get points, with 10 each for the people who come first, 7 for second and 4 for third. In a quiz where there actually are elims, finalists get two points each. The standings, then:

BQC Season Two Standings (as of May 31, 2007)

11 points
Dhananjay Shettigar (from 2 quizzes)

10 points
Ajit Prabhakar (1)
AP Alagarsamy (2)
Avinash Mudaliar (1)
Mahesh Murthy (1)
Rajiv Rai (1)

8 points
Govind Grewal (2)

7 points
Akshay Mahajan (1)
Ashwan Lewis (1)
Meghashyam Shirodkar (1)
Pradeep Ramarathnam (1)
Prasann Potdar (2)

4 points
Francis Rodrigues (1)
Samrat Sengupta (1)
Sushant (1)
Vibhendu Tiwari (1)

The total number of quizzes in the season will be 24, so there's a long way to go. Come and join the fun!

Three Quizzes on a Sunday !

Amit Varma, Sumant Srivathsan and Rishi Iyengar conducted 3 fantastic quizzes at the Pinstorm office in Bandra last Sunday. The questions spanned diverse topics - from the size of men’s private parts to operas of Philip Glass - and were thoroughly enjoyed( the questions, not the private parts) by the 30-odd participants. Team 7 and Team 8 got off to an early lead but Team 5 won in the end, edging out Team 1 by a solitary point.
After an evening of healthy quizzing, everybody went home, but not before paying their respects to Cthulhu.

A feast of quizzing

The Bombay Quiz Club met up at the Pinstorm office today, in what turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon of quizzing. Due to some last minutes cancellations, Rajiv Rai and Sumanth pitched in with old QFI quizzes to ensure today's quiz did happen. The competition was intense, as always, and both sets of questions were exhausted. Bala, from Delhi and Hyderabad, threw in some fine art related visuals to round off the day's events.

The results are as follows:

Mahesh Murthy and Alagarsamy: 195

Pradeep Ramarathnam and Prasanna Potdar: 170

Francis Rodrigues, Dhananjay Shettigar and Govind Grewal: 160

Amit Pandeya and Siddartha Vaidyanathan: 140

Bala and Tanmay Sharma: 140

Ameya Samant and Prasanna Ganesh: 130

Alagar is off to an early lead in the second season of the BQC league.

The questions will be put up in the files section of our google group
